"I was raped when I was aged 7," she started, "my parents got divorced when I was 9 months. Then mother remarried and the step father was good to me till the birth of a son. Then step father changed and started beating me and as years went by, I was in class pp, when he started touching my body every night. He blackmailed me not to tell my mother."

"What did you do?"

I asked her and she replied, "I was afraid and stayed silent. Then, when I was in class 3, he used me in bathroom in the pretext of bathing me. I cried and when I cannot walk properly and when mother asked, he would swallow me with his bulging eyes, warning me not tell mother; if I did, he will give divorce to my mother. Abuse continued, he used to close doors and beat me and my mother every day and night; the neighbour ignored, calling it 'routine.'

"Then, finally mother decided and divorced him. It was a good news but my mother sent my step brother and me to village. We were to stay with my mother's sister(Azem)."

"So did your life got better thereafter?"

I asked her hiding the pain, reading her story.

"Yes, Azem had a girl and I played with her. Aunty and uncle were good to me treating me like their daughter. My mother left back to Paro with my brother, leaving me alone. Studying was not easy without mother, so I failed in class 3."

"So, what happened next?"

I asked expecting that her life got better.

"Not really. When I was in class four, I used to sleep next to uncle's father, who was in 70s. He started to crawl upon me and I stayed silent as he, too, blackmailed me. I stayed silently and years went by, the old man crawling under my blanket every night."

"Light of hope shone when the old man come home late night drunk, so that I can sleep peacefully. When I was in class 6, I thought of committing suicide but not finding anything to hang with, I wrote letter to aunty and planned to run away but aunty found the letter before the escape."

"Years went by and the old man got older and I was senseless in class 10. From class 9 onwards, the old man started using his fingers hurting me every night. After class X, as I disqualified, I joined a training centre. Two years of boarding life, took me out of hell, for awhile."

"For a while?"

"Yes, after my training I got job and signed for two years contract at the same place, so had to stay with my aunty only."

"What about the old man?"

"He is in 80s. We are in the same room just now. He is waiting for me to fall asleep."
